Chocolate Fondue Day
Chocolate Fondue Day is officially held on 5th February... but the way we see it is, you could use this occasion to practice your fondue skills in time for Valentines Day ;-)
It's a fun and easy chocolate dessert to enjoy with your date, and if you're spending the day alone it's equally enjoyable (maybe even more so as you can completely indulge without judgement!)
It's super easy to make and you can dip a whole variety of fresh fruit or snacks into the melted chocolate sauce. The best bit is it takes next to no time at all to prepare - in less than 10 minutes you'll have a mouth-watering dessert that will satisfy even the sweetest tooth!
Ingredients
- 400g dark chocolate
- 85g butter (unsalted)
- 285ml double cream
- 300ml whole milk
- Your choice of foods to dip. This could be strawberries, marshmallows, pretzels, biscuits, bananas or anything that you fancy that can put on the end of a fondue skewer!!
Method
This recipe caters for 4 people. If you are making for 2 people, simply halve the recipe.
Step 1. Add the chocolate into the saucepan. If using a block of chocolate, break this into pieces first before putting into the saucepan.
Step 2. Add the rest of the ingredients, milk, butter and cream to the saucepan.
Step 3. Place the saucepan over a low heat, stirring often until the chocolate has melted and the ingredients have all fully combined into a smooth chocolatey sauce.
Step 4. Remove from the heat and pour the sauce into a serving bowl.
Step 5. Place your dipping foods onto a plate or platter. When you are ready to eat, simply
Dip and dunk anything you like in the chocolate fondue sauce!
Fun Fact. Chocolate fondue was invented in the 1960's by a Swiss restaurateur Konrad 'Konni' Egli in his restaurant Chalet Suisse which was based in New York City. His version of chocolate fondue was a little different to our recipe; it had chocolate, heavy cream and a cherry brandy called kirsch.
