PUMPKIN SPICE SMOOTHIE
As soon as the first leaf drops from the trees, so start the coffee shops churning out their tempting pumpkin spice lattes. The air on the streets is suddenly filled with this heavenly smell of cinnamon, nutmeg and pure warming sweetness – it really is hard to resist the temptation at the best of times!
While hot spicy coffees like this can be a real treat, they are not something you can indulge in daily. Being higher in sugar and fat, they offer little nutritional value so you're often left feeling guilty after having one. Well, there is no need to feel guilty anymore...
With our Pumpkin Spice Smoothie recipe, you’ll get the best of both worlds – the blend of seasonal spices mixed with pumpkin puree and a sweet kick from natural maple syrup makes this smoothie a truly yummy (and healthy) treat. Packed with vitamins A, B, C and E, omega-3, calcium, potassium, manganese and magnesium, it certainly gives all those lattes run for their money in more ways than one!
Smoothies needn’t just be reserved for the hot summer months. The variety of healthy ingredients with fragrant autumnal spices creates a delicious smoothie that is simply bursting with flavour, goodness and the warming taste of autumn.
Whether you have it for breakfast or as a mid-day snack, we guarantee you’ll be making this recipe again and again. This recipe is very versatile as it can be made with either dairy or vegan dairy alternatives.
Ingredients:
🥄 2 bananas
🥄 235ml oat milk (replace with alternative if preferred)
🥄 235ml plain yoghurt (replace with plant-based if preferred)
🥄 470ml pumpkin puree (ready-made or fresh homemade)
🥄 1 tsp vanilla extract
🥄 2 tbsp maple syrup
🥄 1 tbsp chia seeds
🥄 1 tsp ground cinnamon
To serve:
Whipped cream (replace with vegan whipped cream if preferred)
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Method:
Before starting ensure your blender is clean and ready to use. Plug in and switch on the plug.
1. Peel the bananas and put inside the jug.
2. Add the oat milk, yoghurt and pumpkin puree.
3. Next add the vanilla extract and maple syrup.
4. Lastly, add the chia seeds and cinnamon.
5. Blend all of the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. When it’s finished, turn off the blender.
To serve:
Divide into 2 glasses and top both with whipped cream. Garnish with a sprinkle cinnamon.
Enjoy straight away, on your way to work or curled up cosily around your fireplace.
