Oaty Banana Waffles
To celebrate Waffle Iron Day on the 29th of June, we wanted to try making a healthy alternative to traditional Belgian waffles.
These easy oaty banana waffles are the perfect breakfast recipe for both busy and laid back mornings. They are healthy with only 5 ingredients, free from refined sugar and packed full of goodness.
They are delicious served with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
Ingredients
- 130g rolled oats
- 2 bananas chopped
- 2 large free-range eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Toppings
The great thing with waffles is that you can top them with almost anything that takes your fancy! For these ones why not try blueberries, almond butter, honey or maple syrup. You could even serve with a generous dollop of Greek yoghurt on the side.
Method
1. Put all of the ingredients, the rolled oats, bananas, eggs, vanilla extract and baking powder into a blender and blend until it is smooth and thick.
2. Turn the waffle maker on to heat up and spray the hotplate with a little cooking oil to prevent the mixture from sticking.
3. Pour the batter into each waffle mould, close the lid and leave to cook for 7-10 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
4. Using a wooden spatula, carefully remove the cooked waffles and put them onto plates.
These waffles are delicious as they are or can be topped with whatever topping you like!
